Craigslist New Phone Verification hits ALL Service categories

It appears Craigslist.org is making phone verification mandatory for posting ads in all “Service” categories now. This will be a huge blow for all the Craigslist.org marketers who have received the majority of their income by posting multiple ads on Craigslist.
The phone verification process is fairly straight forward:
Your account needs to be authenticated by phone to post to creative services
We need you to provide a valid, working phone number so that we can verify your account.
To help enforce our terms of use, craigslist requires an account verified by phone for posting in certain categories. Terms of use violations will be subject to account suspension and blacklisting of the phone number used to verify the account.
Shortly after entering your phone number below, you will receive an automated phone call during which an authorization code will be provided to you.
After i entered my phone number i received an automated phone call in about 15 seconds. Here is the recording of it:

This new feature does not even work, i’ve been sitting here for 15 minutes trying to get them to send me a code at least 5 times and it’s a piece of crap.

what if I post more than 2 ad to more than one city. What will happen? Or what if some uses different email address with the same phone number?

That really sucks. For all of the ads that are placed on Craigs list will now not be doable. Bummer!

Sadly, a huge blow for many, me included, as much of my business was creating images ads.
I’m also wondering if some have been pre-banned via their IP, as I was unable to even create a legit account after many attempts, until I went through a proxy. (Still awaiting the code)
Sucks all around.

I think there will be a way to get around this eventually. We need to all put our heads together and figure it out. I think it won’t be long until every category is like this. Since my business is posting ads, I have to find a work around. Contact me if you have questions or comments on how we can overcome this.

Even after phone verification, could not post at first. Eventually, it worked.
We fear our best consistent source for new customers is sadly going to virtually disappear. And so we will, too, along with the rest of Manhattan’s middle class. So maybe it won’t matter that services for the middle class disappear, since there will be no population for those businesses to serve.

I could post in for sale (musical instruments) — I did it a few minutes ago, and did not get that phone verification page. Yesterday I tried under services to post my ad to give guitar lessons. What a bummer — I got no call with a verification number.
Meanwhile another dude is posting multiple daily ads for guitar lessons EVERY DAY — I flagged him but he gets away with it. How come he can over-post like the dickens in services> music lessons, and I’m you-know-whated.

Please sign and repost links to this petition asking craiglist to remove the phone verification. It is blocking all kinds of people including anyone using VOIP (vonage, skype) or prepaid cell phones. If you look in their help forums its hurting many users. Sign and pass it along to as may people as you know who are concerned about it. Also wouldnt hurt to digg it etc.

My consultant tells me that if you set up a craigs list account, you will only need to do a phone verification once in order to make multiple posts. So as long as you have only 1 ad posted per category you’ll be fine.

I was told on this site that within 5 minutes, I would receive a verification # on my telephone. Instead, I received 2 messages while downstairs doing laundry. One was from a friend, the other from a clear voiced female who only said, Goodbye. And, that was following about 15 minutes. Depressing the continue button provided me a number that clipped so that I understood 956567, then 9 6567. Please help me get a good number to submit my ad.

Yeah it’s BS. This is all over just one category (erotic). So instead of making this a requirement for that category they require it for all. Stupid .. CL is just data mining so they can sell info to 3rd party taggers. Note that the absence of conditions listed for using/storing the phone number. IOW they can distribute it at will.

It will also soon be spreading to the Jobs section. Has greatly reduced the amount of unrelated ads and increases the barriers to entry. Good for those with verified accounts.

If anyone needs verified craigslist accounts its pretty easy. All you have to do is go to http://unlimitednumbers.com and either buy the accounts or buy a package of phone numbers and forward them to one phone number then verify your accounts on different IPs. We have the cheapest prices on the internet on that site and are very customer service friendly.

CL has just started banning any account that is created and not used within 48 hours. Be VERY leary of buying bulk accounts as they probably have been sitting unused for some time and are already banned. Or, you can stop paying for accounts at all and go to CLPostPro.info and they will teach you step by step how to create all the accounts you want for free!
